Text: Deuteronomy 10:16
16….”Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.”
6….”And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.”
From the two Deuteronomy passages above, it is very clear that salvation and obedience to God, is strictly a personal affair. God doesn’t force man into it, neither does he use his power against your will to make you a Christian. If he does coerce any to become a Christian, he must also force every human to become. This is why John said in John 1:12 that, it is only those that both receive and believe in him, that can have the power to become Christians. Personal believing is therefore a precondition for God’s word to access our hearts. It is this believing that Deut 10:16 calls circumcising the foreskin of your heart, for the Lord to be able to positively affect your heart…Deut 30:6.
The most important organ spiritually, in man, is his heart. The heart is the organ which propels the physical blood through the circulatory system in human body. Spiritually, the heart is the conscience, which also propels the spirit and life (John 6:63), of the word of God through the soul and spirit of all humans, to control the flesh to live in obedience to God’s standard. The heart or conscience of a worshipper is expected to play the dominant role in the actions and reactions of a believer, to suit the faith he or she is confessing. The heart actions and reactions are the duties in thoughts of the believer towards God and God’s works generally.
Therefore, for God to dwell in, and show himself mighty through us (2 Chro 16:9), we must maintain a pure and loving heart (Psalm 24:4, Rom 5:5). We must also be cheerful at all times with an obedient heart. Once we possess these kinds of hearts, our faithfulness to the Lord will not be doubted. Beloveth, for our worship to be acceptable by God, it must proceed from a joyful heart, cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
O Lord, circumcise my heart with your word of faith, to give me the grace to receive you into my heart in Jesus’ name.
Heavenly Father, control my conscience to think only what will benefit my spiritual man, so I don’t get lost in unacceptable worship in Jesus’ name.
Thank you Father, for cleansing my heart with Jesus’ blood, to enable pure worship to proceed from it in Jesus’ name.
