Text: Matthew 24:40-41

📖40….”Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
📖41….Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.”

🔥Being in same Church, under same pastor’s teachings and preachings, do not guarantee same fate, and same destination. This is justified by Jesus’ words in Matt 24:40-41, as indelible words on the sand of time, and marble crested. To substantiate this, the tale of two sisters who lived in same house and hosted Jesus together severally in Luke 10:38-42, can be used as a case study. These sisters were Martha and Mary. Martha served Jesus with meals (Luke 10:40, John 12:2), went to Jesus when in need (John 11:20,30), had faith in Jesus (Lk 11:21-22), confessed Jesus as the Christ, and God’s Son (John 11:27), yet wasn’t approved by Jesus in Luke 10:41-42.

🔥🔥On the other hand, Mary, Martha’s sister, who sat at Jesus’ feet to hear his word (Luke 10:39), anointed Jesus’ feet with costly ointment and wiped his feet with her hair in John 12:3 and 11:2, had faith in Jesus (John 11:32), and put first things first (Luke 10:42) by seeking God’s Kingdom and His righteousness (Matt 6:33) through Jesus’ words, was approved by Jesus Christ in Luke 10:42. What made Jesus to reject Martha, but accepted Mary was that, while Martha was only interested in winning Jesus by her food, Mary was being won by Jesus through hearing his word of life. Believers should submissively be won by Jesus’ word, than trying to win Jesus with their worldliness.

🔥🔥🔥Jesus didn’t come for us to win him by our meals, wealth, fame, glamour, larger than earth castles we call Churches, and seductive attitudes, but he came to win us from our attachment to worldly beauties, over to God, by his word. While Martha was suffering from the lust of the flesh, by being careful, anxious and troubled over many things, and leaving the needful things undone, Mary was busy doing the needful, which was eating Jesus’ food (John 4:7,15,28-29, Luke 10:39,41-42), to be like Jesus. Mary even went to Jesus’ grave alone while it was dark…John 20:1, visiting Jesus in the prison…Matt 25:44b. The attitude of Mary, is the serious godliness which will do us real good in this world, and also open the door of eternal life for us.

🙏Heavenly Father, prevent me by your love, from engaging myself in futile works in the faith in Jesus’ name.

🙏🙏O Lord, as your word was sweeter to Mary’s soul than meat and drinks, may my soul long for, and accept your word daily, in Jesus’ name.

🙏🙏🙏Ancient of days, may all my struggles in the faith, be to hear only you, obey you and live by your word of life forever, in Jesus’ name.
